E' con grande soddisfazione che sono stato ammesso al programma beta testing del nuovo prodotto di VMware "Virtual Desktop Infrastructure" identificato code name "Silverstone"

Episodio capitato stamattina
Giusto per segnalare che quando ci sono gli strumenti per fare i danni, anche con l'esperienza, si è sempre in situazione di pericolo.

Situazione

Cluster VMWARE VI3 cosi' composto

CLUSTER (DRS, HA attivi, VMOTION enabled)
--ESX1
--ESX2
--ESX3

In tutto in produzione 30 macchine virtuali.

....metto esx1 in maintenance mode dovendo installare 6 patches sull'esx e questo inizia a migrare VM.....entra in maintenance mode dopo 12 vmotion.
Installo le patches e a questo punto devo riavviare.

Apro putty mi collego a ESX3 (non a ESX1 quello che dovevo riavviare!!!) e come root lancio un shutdown -r now

BAM........esx3 con 15 Vm inizia uno shutdown....e si scollega dal virtual center....

Realizzo la m****ata e faccio uscire ESX1 dal maintenance mode.....

Vedo esx3 scollegato e le macchine come SCOLLEGATE....

Mi aspetto le telefonate degli utenti ma.....il buon vecchio vmware HA tira giu' le macchine, le sposta con un vmotion a freddo su esx1 e esx2 e le riaccende....

San VMware mi ha salvato...tempo di downtime dei server interessati....30 sec....il tempo di spegnerli e riaccenderli.

MORALE, dopo aver spento un server per un altro:

1) Quando fai le cose....stai attento
2) Quando lanci comandi da console....non ti loggare come root
3) PENSA PENSA PENSA prima di fare!!!!

Recentemente ho implementato in azienda questo real time collaboration server Open Source basato sul protocollo Jabber (XMPP). gestibile via http offre molte funzionalità abbinato col client Spark ma non solo.
Veramente interessante se siete interessati alla messagistica istantanea e non volete spendere un euro!

A quanto pare oltre ad altri problemino si sono accorti che Vista a copiare e spostare file aveva seri problemi....

VMTS patch manager per VMware esx

Gli amministratori di Vmware Esx server sanno che il patching del sistema è una qualcosa di infernale e da fare manualmente per ogni host ESX.
Segnalo VMTS Patch manager http://www.vmts.net/ , un ottimo software che si collega al sito vmware, scarica le patches e automaticamente aggiorna i vostri sistemi. Il tutto con interfaccia grafica.

Un grande tool FREEWARE che permette in maniera efficace di fare un dump del registro, installare programmi o fare settaggi, e, creando un secondo dump, confrontarlo col primo in modo da individuare quali chiavi di registro sono cambiate. Permette inoltre il monitoring REAL TIME del registro mentre si effettuano azioni.
Formidabile per creare file .REG ad hoc e distribuirli via script GPO.

If any application installs spyware, adware, dlls, programs, files, or any other type of file, picture, or program, etc. or changes the Registry's content, you will be able to see exactly where the modification occurred so you can take measures. It seems like more and more programs are attempting to install spyware, advertisements, or other garbage without your knowledge, but with this software you will know everything that is added or removed.

To detect Registry/Disk changes the program will create Dumps of the actual states of Registry/Disk. This means that at any time you can open the Dump file and view the contents of the Registry/Disk just as they were when you've scanned the Registry/Disk. The program can compare two different dump files so you'll see exactly what changed in the Registry/Disk between the two scans.

You can also use the program to backup your Registry. The program can restore old states of Registry keys using the data in the Dump files.
